This qualification is designed for experienced vehicle technicians who need to demonstrate their competence at Level 3, but do not hold a formal qualification certificate.

It provides a recognised route into MOT Tester training for Classes 1 & 2 or Classes 4 & 7, allowing you to progress without needing to retrain from scratch.

All MITA courses and assessments are developed by professionals who have done the job — or are still doing it. The content is focused on real-world inspection and diagnostic skills, ensuring you can demonstrate what you already know in a structured and recognised way.

For many technicians, this solves a common problem — having the experience, but not the paperwork to prove it. This qualification bridges that gap and enables progression.

Training and assessment are delivered in a classroom environment with a MITA-approved regional training provider.

This course is typically delivered over 2 days using structured, modular learning.

Entry requirements
To enrol on this qualification, learners should have:

• A minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a vehicle repair workshop
• A valid UK driving licence for the vehicle classes they intend to test
• Strong hands-on mechanical experience in servicing, maintenance, and repair
• The ability to carry out vehicle inspections independently

Learners must also be of good repute and able to meet DVSA suitability requirements. As part of the MOT Tester approval process, a DBS check and declaration of any relevant disciplinary history may be required.

Successful completion of this qualification provides a recognised route into MOT Tester training. Learners may progress directly to the Level 2 Award in MOT Testing for either Classes 4 and 7 or Classes 1 and 2, enabling them to move forward without the need to obtain a traditional Level 3 qualification.
