Take control of day-to-day MOT testing operations. Develop the knowledge and competence required to manage testing activity and maintain compliance at your Vehicle Testing Station (VTS).This course is designed for individuals responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of MOT testing within a Vehicle Testing Station (VTS), a role that is assigned to every VTS and called the MOT Site Manager (SM).
Every Authorised Examiner must appoint a suitable person (SM) to oversee testing activities at each site. This is not a role that can be assigned lightly — the individual must be able to demonstrate competence, understanding, and control over testing operations.
The MOT Site Manager is typically the first point of contact for DVSA Vehicle Examiners and is expected to have clear oversight of how testing is conducted, how standards are maintained, and how compliance is managed.
Many test stations are exposed because this role is either not clearly defined or not properly supported. When issues arise, DVSA will look directly at who is responsible for site-level control.
This qualification sits below the Level 3 MOT Manager (AEDM) qualification and is focused specifically on operational control at site level, rather than business ownership or multi-site management.

This course takes approximately 12 hours to complete and is delivered through structured, modular learning.
The course includes 11 hours of guided learning, supported by three short multiple-choice assessments completed throughout the training journey. This approach allows knowledge to be assessed as you progress, reinforcing learning and ensuring understanding at each stage.
Additional time may be available where reasonable adjustments are required.
This qualification can be completed online or through a MITA-approved training provider. Training is flexible either at your own pace or in a classroom with modular learning and embedded assessments throughout to reinforce understanding and reflect real-world MOT testing.

There are no formal entry requirements. However, this course is most suitable for qualified MOT Testers or individuals involved in supervising MOT testing activities.
Successful completion of this qualification supports progression into MOT site management and supervisory roles, providing a strong foundation for those who may later progress to the Level 3 MOT Test Centre Management (AEDM) qualification. It also supports businesses in strengthening site-level compliance by ensuring a competent individual is responsible for overseeing testing operations.
