Quality Control

This course and assessment package is designed to develop the skills required to carry out effective quality control checks within an MOT testing environment.

While not currently a mandatory role, quality control is a key focus for DVSA Vehicle Examiners during site visits and inspections. Having a trained individual responsible for quality checks helps ensure standards are maintained and risks are identified early.

All MITA courses and assessments are developed by professionals who have done the job - or are still doing it. That means the content reflects real-world testing operations, written in a way that makes sense to those working within MOT stations.

The training can be completed digitally at your own pace or delivered in a classroom environment with a MITA-approved regional training provider.

This qualification is delivered through modular training, with short assessments at the end of each module to confirm understanding as you progress. Rather than a single end-point exam, results from these staged assessments contribute to your overall outcome.

The full course typically takes around 4 hours to complete, with training and assessment integrated throughout.

This qualification can be completed online or through a MITA-approved training provider. Training is flexible—either at your own pace or in a classroom—while all assessments are carried out under controlled conditions, including e-proctoring and/or classroom invigilation where required.

Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. However, this course is most suitable for individuals involved in MOT testing or those responsible for maintaining quality and compliance within a Vehicle Testing Station (VTS). DVSA guidance suggests that quality control checks should typically be carried out by testers qualified in the same class of vehicle being assessed.

Successful completion of this qualification supports learners in carrying out internal quality control checks and strengthening compliance within their MOT testing operation. It also supports progression into supervisory or managerial roles where responsibility for quality assurance and regulatory compliance is required.
